<h1>India Amends Excise Duty Rules: Food Preparations in Hotels and Restaurants Now Exempt Under Notification 37/2011</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 37/2011-Central Excise, amending Notification No. 3/2006-Central Excise. This amendment, effective from July 25, 2011, introduces changes to the effective rate of duty on goods classified under Chapters 1 to 25 of the Central Excise Tariff. Specifically, a new entry has been added to the notification, exempting food preparations, including those containing meat, prepared or served in hotels, restaurants, or retail outlets, from excise duty. This amendment is made under the authority of the Central Excise Act, 1944, in the public interest.
