of <h1>India exempts hand-rolled cheroots priced under Rs. 3 from excise duty per Finance Act, 2005, Section 85.</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 23/2010-Central Excise, dated April 29, 2010, amending the previous Notification No. 6/2005-Central Excise. This amendment exempts hand-rolled cheroots, with a retail sale price not exceeding Rs. 3 per cheroot, from the additional duty of excise under Section 85 of the Finance Act, 2005. The exemption applies to cheroots manually rolled without machinery. The amendment is made in the public interest and is published in the Gazette of India.
