India Raises Export Duty on Iron Ore to 15% Under Customs Act, Effective April 29, 2010
The Government of India has amended Notification No. 79/2008-Customs, dated June 13, 2008, to increase the export duty on iron ore to 15% ad valorem, regardless of the iron content. This change, effective April 29, 2010, was made under the authority of the Customs Act, 1962, and is deemed necessary in the public interest. The amendment replaces the previous duty rate of 10% ad valorem with the new 15% rate. This modification is documented in Notification No. 56/2010-Customs and published in the Gazette of India.
