of <h1>India exempts service tax on works contracts for non-commercial canals under Finance Act, 1994, Section 93(1).</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, issued Notification No. 41/2009-Service Tax on October 23, 2009, exempting service tax on services related to the execution of works contracts for canals not primarily used for commerce or industry. This exemption was made under the authority of section 93(1) of the Finance Act, 1994. The notification was later rescinded by Notification No. 34/2012-Service Tax, dated June 20, 2012.
