of <h1>Service Tax Rules Amended: New Provisions for Custom House and Steamer Agents Effective June 15, 1997, Rule 2 Updated.</h1> The Central Government issued the Service Tax (Second Amendment) Rules, 1997, effective from June 15, 1997. This amendment modifies the Service Tax Rules, 1994, by inserting new sub-clauses in rule 2, sub-rule (1), clause (d). The new provisions specify that in the context of services provided by custom house agents and steamer agents, the respective agents who issue bills for services rendered to clients or shipping lines are covered under these rules.
