Amendment to Export-Import Policy 1997-2002: Special Import Licences Freely Transferable, Concessional Duty for Gold and Silver Imports
Notification No. 22/1997, dated November 4, 1997, amends the Export and Import Policy of 1997-2002. It specifies that Special Import Licences (SIL) are freely transferable and valid for importing items listed in the 'ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items.' While imports under SIL are subject to normal customs duties, gold and silver imports are permitted at a concessional customs duty rate as specified by the Department of Revenue. The requirement for an EEFC account and payment in foreign exchange for these imports has been omitted. This amendment is issued in the public interest by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
