<h1>India exempts iron and steel castings and forgings (excluding stainless steel) from part of customs duty under Section 25(1).</h1> The Central Government of India, under the authority of Section 25(1) of the Customs Act, 1962, has issued Notification No. 91/86-Cus, dated February 17, 1986. This notification exempts certain iron and steel castings and forgings, excluding stainless steel, from a portion of the customs duty specified in the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. The exemption applies to items under heading numbers 73.19 to 73.26, reducing the duty to 70% ad valorem. This exemption is effective from February 28, 1986, and aims to serve the public interest.
