India Exempts Offshore Oil Exploration Imports from Customs Duties Until March 1988, Subject to Certification Requirements
The Central Government of India, under the Customs Act, 1962, exempts goods imported for off-shore oil exploration or exploitation from customs duties, including additional duties, as per the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. This exemption is effective until March 31, 1988, and requires importers to provide two certificates: one from a Deputy Secretary or higher in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirming the goods' necessity for oil exploration, and another from the Directorate General of Technical Development confirming the goods are not manufactured in India. This notification supersedes the previous notification from June 28, 1982.
