Amendment to 1985 Customs Notification: Exemption for High-Speed Computers Effective March 1, 1987, Under Customs Act, 1962.
The Central Government, under the powers granted by the Customs Act, 1962, has issued an amendment to the earlier notification No. 68/85-Customs dated March 17, 1985. This amendment, effective from March 1, 1987, provides an exemption for computers meeting specific technical criteria: a Central Processing Unit with a speed of at least ten million instructions per second, a disc capacity of at least four gigabytes, and a main memory of at least thirty-two megabytes. This decision is made in the public interest to facilitate the import of advanced computing technology.
