The Central Government of India, under the Customs Act, 1962, has issued an exemption for customs duties on drilling rigs and their spares imported for rural water supply projects. This exemption applies to both the main customs duty and the additional duty under the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. Conditions include that the rigs must be gifted under a bilateral agreement, the spares' value must not exceed 10% of the rigs' value annually, and a certification from a Deputy Secretary is required. This exemption is valid until March 31, 1988.
