Customs Act Update: New Rules for Clearing Waste in Garment Manufacturing Zones
The Central Government has amended Notification No. 262/85-Cus through Notification No. 203/87-Customs dated May 11, 1987, under the Customs Act, 1962. The amendment, deemed necessary in the public interest, involves changes to conditions related to the clearance of waste materials such as rags, trimmings, and tailor cuttings from the Zone during the manufacture of readymade garments. These materials can now be cleared provided they do not exceed the percentage set by the Falta Export Processing Zone Board. The changes are reflected in specific clauses of the original notification.
