Govt Amends Customs Notifications to Withdraw Duty Concessions on Liquors, Alters Exemption Terms Under Section 25(1) of Customs Act
The Central Government has amended Notification Nos. 44/86 and 76/86-Cus, both dated February 17, 1986, to withdraw the concessional basic customs duty on liquors and spirituous beverages. The amendment also restricts the exemption of additional duty solely to liquors. Specifically, in Notification No. 44/86, the table entry at Sl. No. 3 and related entries are omitted. In Notification No. 76/86, the term 'liquors' is replaced with 'liqueurs.' These changes are enacted under the powers conferred by section 25(1) of the Customs Act, 1962, effective from March 1, 1988.
