Customs Duty Reduced for Offshore Oil Exploration Imports in 1989 with Ministry Certification
The Central Government, under the Customs Act, 1962, exempts specific goods imported for off-shore oil exploration or exploitation from certain customs duties. Effective from January 1, 1989, to November 30, 1989, the exemption reduces the customs duty to 25% ad valorem and waives additional duties if the importer provides a certificate from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The exempted items include seismic survey vessels, drilling rigs, helicopters, supply boats, specialized service equipment, chemicals, platforms, pipelines, and maintenance consumables essential for off-shore oil activities.
