of <h1>India Exempts Imported Goods from Special Excise Duty under Customs Act Section 25(1) via Notification No. 169/89-Cus</h1> The Central Government of India, exercising its powers under Section 25(1) of the Customs Act, 1962, has issued Notification No. 169/89-Cus dated May 12, 1989. This notification supersedes the earlier Notification No. 118/89-Customs dated March 1, 1989. It exempts all goods listed in the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, from the additional duty equivalent to the special excise duty. This exemption applies to goods imported into India, aligning the duty with that levied on similar goods produced domestically under Section 37(1) of the Finance Act, 1989.
