of <h1>Govt exempts additional duty on imported newsprint for newspapers, books, and periodicals under Customs Act, 1962, Section 25(1).</h1> The Central Government, under the authority of Section 25(1) of the Customs Act, 1962, has issued Notification No. 235/89-Cus dated September 1, 1989, granting an exemption from the additional duty on newsprint. This exemption applies to newsprint used for printing newspapers, books, and periodicals classified under heading No. 48.01 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, when imported into India. The exemption is deemed necessary in the public interest and removes the additional duty imposed under Section 3 of the Customs Tariff Act.
