Customs Notification Amended: Importers Must Provide Certificates for Exemption on Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes.
The Central Government has amended Notification No. 86/90-Customs, originally issued on March 20, 1990, under the Customs Act, 1962. The amendment modifies condition (i) to require importers to produce a certificate for customs exemption. For small-scale sector firms, the certificate must come from a State Government officer or the Development Commissioner (Small Scale Industries). For other firms, the certificate must be from an Additional Industrial Adviser in the Directorate General of Technical Development. This certificate confirms registration as a manufacturer of cold drawn seamless pipes and tubes of stainless steel.
