Photo Composing Machines, Keyboards Exempt from Certain Duties for Newspaper Importers Under Customs Act, 1962
The Central Government, under the Customs Act, 1962, exempts photo composing machines and keyboards within Chapter 84 or 90 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, from certain customs duties when imported by registered newspaper establishments. The exemption includes a reduction of the customs duty to 35% ad valorem and a waiver of additional duties. To qualify, importers must present a certificate from the Registrar of Newspapers for India at the time of clearance, recommending the exemption. This measure is deemed necessary in the public interest.
