Central Government Cuts Gold Import Duty for Passengers; Short Visits Under 30 Days Now Exempt from Duty Rule.
The Central Government has amended Notification No. 117/92-Customs concerning the import of gold by passengers. The amendment reduces the duty from 'Rs. 450 per ten grams' to 'Rs. 220 per ten grams.' Additionally, an explanation has been added stating that short visits by passengers during a six-month period will be disregarded if the total stay does not exceed 30 days and the exemption was not utilized during these visits. This amendment is made under the authority of the Customs Act, 1962, in the public interest.
