Amendments to Customs Notifications: Revised Wastage Limits for Exported Gold, Silver, and Platinum Jewellery.
The Central Government has amended Notification Nos. 3/88-Cus. and 177/94-Cus. concerning the export of jewellery to address processing loss percentages. For gold mountings and findings, the amendments specify allowable wastage based on value addition: up to 3% for 15-40% value addition, up to 5% for 40-50%, and up to 8% for over 50%. For silver jewellery, wastage is up to 5% for 25-40% value addition and up to 7% beyond that. The amendments clarify that wastage is permissible only for mountings and findings made from imported gold and exported as such, with similar norms applied to platinum jewellery.
