Customs Act Amendment Expands Exemptions to Include Testing, Calibration, and Maintenance for Imported Goods.
Notification No. 119/95-Cus, dated July 6, 1995, issued under the Customs Act, 1962, amends a previous notification from June 22, 1994. The amendment broadens the scope of activities covered under customs exemptions for imported goods. Initially limited to repairs, reconditioning, or re-engineering, the notification now includes testing, calibration, and maintenance (including service). This change reflects the government's decision, in the public interest, to expand the range of permissible activities for imported goods under customs exemptions.
