Customs Act Amendment: Imports and Exports Now Restricted to Designated Ports in India, with Exceptions Possible by Special Order.
Notification No. 29/96-Cus, dated June 15, 1996, amends Notification No. 148/95-Cus concerning imports against a VBAL issued on or after September 19, 1995. The amendment, under the Customs Act, 1962, revises condition (iv) to specify that imports and exports must occur through designated sea ports, airports, or Inland Container Depots across various cities in India. However, the Commissioner of Customs may allow exceptions for other locations through special orders, subject to specified conditions. This amendment is deemed necessary in the public interest by the Central Government.
