Government Amends Customs Notifications for Easier Import of Capital Goods by EOUs and EPZs Effective August 3, 1998
The Central Government has amended notifications 133/94-Customs and 53/97-Customs concerning export promotion and processing by 100% Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and units in Export Processing Zones (EPZ) or Free Trade Zones (FTZ). The amendments, effective from August 3, 1998, modify the Export Promotion Capital Goods scheme to allow the import of capital goods at a duty rate of either 10% ad valorem or zero rate of duty, replacing the previous rates. These changes are intended to support public interest by facilitating easier import conditions for capital goods under the scheme.
