<h1>New Exchange Rates Set for Stamp Duty and Customs, Superseding 1988 Notification, Effective January 1, 1989</h1> The Central Government, exercising powers under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, and the Customs Act, 1962, has issued a notification superseding the previous one dated 27th September 1988. Effective from January 1, 1989, the notification prescribes exchange rates for converting specified foreign currencies into Indian currency for calculating stamp duty and customs purposes. The rates include Austrian Schillings at 82.00, Australian Dollars at 7.735, Belgian Francs at 245.00, Canadian Dollars at 7.895, and U.S. Dollars at 6.610, among others, as detailed in the accompanying schedule.
