<h1>Central Government Issues Notification on Exchange Rates for Stamp Duty and Customs under Indian Stamp Act and Customs Act</h1> The Central Government, under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 and the Customs Act, 1962, has issued Notification No. 77/91-Cus. (N.T.) dated 27th November 1991, superseding a previous notification. Effective from 1st December 1991, this notification prescribes exchange rates for converting specified foreign currencies into Indian currency for calculating stamp duty and customs purposes. The schedule lists exchange rates for various currencies, including Austrian Schillings, Australian Dollars, Belgian Francs, Canadian Dollars, and others, with the U.S. Dollar rate set at 3.8475 for conversion equivalent to Rs. 100.
