The amendment allows the Assistant Collector of Customs to extend a tourist's stay for legitimate non-immigrant purposes by an additional six months. If further extension is needed, the Collector can extend the stay by one year, and the Board can extend it beyond two years. These changes aim to accommodate tourists needing to prolong their stay for valid reasons.
