of <h1>New Exchange Rates for Imported Goods Set by Notification No. 51/96-Cus, Effective November 1, 1996</h1> Notification No. 51/96-Cus. (N.T.), dated October 28, 1996, issued by the Central Government, supersedes Notification No. 45/96-Cus. (N.T.) and sets new exchange rates for foreign currencies concerning imported goods. Effective November 1, 1996, the notification prescribes exchange rates for calculating stamp duty under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, and for purposes related to section 14 of the Customs Act, 1962. The rates for various currencies, such as the U.S. Dollar, Pound Sterling, and Japanese Yen, are specified in Schedule I and II, detailing their conversion into Indian Rupees.
