<h1>New Notification Sets Exchange Rates for Stamp Duty & Imports Under Customs Act Section 14, Effective January 1998.</h1> Notification No. 73/97-Cus. (N.T.), dated December 26, 1997, issued by the Central Government, supersedes Notification No. 62/97-Cus. (N.T.). It prescribes exchange rates for calculating stamp duty under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, and for determining the conversion rates for imported goods under section 14 of the Customs Act, 1962. Effective January 1, 1998, the notification specifies exchange rates for various foreign currencies against the Indian rupee, as listed in Schedules I and II. These rates apply to currencies such as the U.S. Dollar, Pound Sterling, and Japanese Yen, among others.
