<h1>Central Government exempts Braille watches from excess excise duty under Rule 8; minimal duty on other watches.</h1> The Central Government, under rule 8 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, has issued Notification No. 72/86-C.E. dated February 10, 1986, exempting certain excisable goods from excess excise duty as per the Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985. The exempted items include Braille watches and one-day alarm time-pieces, which are subject to no duty, and watches designed to show the time of day and watch components, which are subject to a one percent ad valorem duty. This notification is effective from February 28, 1986.
