of <h1>Central Govt Amends Excise Rules: New Duties on Lighting Products, Including 15% on Lamps and 30% on Filaments</h1> The Central Government, exercising its authority under the Central Excise Rules, 1944, has amended a previous notification from March 1, 1983, concerning Central Excise tariffs. This amendment, effective March 1, 1986, introduces specific excise duties for various lighting products under Chapter 85. Sodium and mercury vapor discharge lamps, sealed beam lamp units, and ultra-violet or infra-red lamps are now subject to a 15% ad valorem duty. Electric filament of discharge lamps, excluding arc lamps, are taxed at 30% ad valorem, while parts are also subject to a 15% ad valorem duty.
