Exemption to gases: excise duty waived where qualifying gases are vented to atmosphere via flare or similar system. The Central Government exempts gases falling under the Tariff Schedule from the whole of the duty of excise leviable thereon under rule 8(1) of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, provided that the said gases are allowed to escape into the atmosphere by flare system or otherwise.
