Tariff amendment: Wire-rods meeting IS 5484-1978 now subject to ad valorem duty under Central Excise rules. The Central Government, under sub-rule (1) of rule 8 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, by Notification No. 203/88-C.E., substitutes S. No. 4 in the Table to Notification No. 150/86-Central Excises so that wire-rods, whether or not in coils, conforming to IS 5484-1978, are subject to an 18 per cent. ad valorem duty.
