of <h1>Government Amends Excise Rules Expanding Exemption to Include Terephthalic Acid Under Rule 8(1) of Central Excise Rules</h1> The Central Government, exercising its authority under rule 8(1) of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, has amended Notification No. 40/85-C.E., dated March 17, 1985. This amendment, issued under Notification No. 215/88-C.E. dated June 16, 1988, modifies the table in the original notification. Specifically, against Serial No. 13 in column (3), the term 'dimethyl terephthalate' is replaced with 'dimethyl terephthalate or terephthalic acid,' thereby expanding the scope of the exemption to include terephthalic acid.
