of <h1>Central Govt exempts small black and white TV tubes from full excise duty under Notification No. 85/89-C.E.</h1> The Central Government, exercising its authority under the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944, has issued Notification No. 85/89-C.E. dated March 1, 1989. This notification exempts black and white cathode-ray television picture tubes with a screen size not exceeding 36 centimeters from the full excise duty specified under sub-heading No. 8540.12 of the Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985. The duty is reduced to an amount calculated at the rate of Rs. 200 per tube, aligning with public interest considerations.
