of <h1>New Excise Duty Rates for Chemicals: DMT at Rs. 3.60/kg and Terephthalic Acid at Rs. 4.40/kg under 2917.10 & 2917.20.</h1> The Central Government, under the authority of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944, has issued Notification No. 24/90-C.E. dated March 20, 1990, to prescribe effective rates of basic excise duty for certain chemicals. Dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), classified under sub-heading 2917.10, is subject to a duty of Rs. 3.60 per kilogram. Terephthalic acid and its salts, under sub-heading 2917.20, are subject to a duty of Rs. 4.40 per kilogram. This measure is taken in the public interest to exempt these goods from excess excise duty beyond the specified rates.
