<h1>Government Sets 5% Excise Duty on Pollution Control Equipment Per Notification 78/90-C.E. with Certification Requirement</h1> The Central Government has set an effective basic excise duty rate of 5% ad valorem for specified pollution control equipment under Notification No. 78/90-C.E., dated March 20, 1990. This exemption applies to goods listed in the schedule of the Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985, provided they are certified for pollution control purposes by a Deputy Secretary or higher in the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The specified equipment includes electrostatic precipitation systems, dust collector systems, scrubbers, air samplers, continuous analyzers, oil and grease removal systems, and various meters and analyzers for water and air pollution testing.
