Amendment Clarifies 'Armed Forces of the Union' to Include CRPF, BSF, CISF, NSG Under Excise Acts

The Central Government has amended Notification No. 278/82-Central Excises, dated November 17, 1982, under the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944, and the Additional Duties of Excise Act, 1957. This amendment, effective from May 1, 1991, adds an explanation to the notification, clarifying that the term 'Armed Forces of the Union' includes the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, and National Security Guard, as constituted under their respective acts from 1949 to 1986. This amendment is made in the public interest.
