<h1>Central Government Amends Excise Notifications: Brand Name Exemptions and Increased Duty Rates Effective April 1994.</h1> The Central Government has amended several Central Excise notifications, effective April 1, 1994. For Notification No. 140/83-C.E., the exemption will not apply to goods with another person's brand or trade name, and additional terms like 'code number' are included in the explanation. Notification No. 75/87-C.E. has similar amendments regarding brand names and explanation terms. Notification No. 214/88-C.E. changes the duty rate from 5% to 10% ad valorem. Notification No. 64/93-C.E. adjusts the rate from 7% to 10%. These changes are made under the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944, in the public interest.
