of <h1>Amendment to Notification No. 1/93-Central Excises: Relaxation on Brand Name Restrictions for Goods Under Heading 83.01</h1> The Central Government has amended Notification No. 1/93-Central Excises, dated February 28, 1993, under the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944. This amendment, effective from May 4, 1994, relaxes the brand name restriction for goods classified under Heading 83.01. It specifies that the restriction on brand names does not apply to goods under this heading that bear a symbol, monogram, label, signature, or invented word for which no individual holds proprietary or user rights. This change is made in the public interest to facilitate certain exemptions in central excise tariffs.
