of <h1>Brand Name Restrictions Lifted for Goods under Heading 83.01; Amendment Effective May 11, 1994</h1> The Central Government has amended Notification No. 1/93-Central Excises to state that the brand name restriction does not apply to goods under Heading 83.01. This amendment, effective from May 11, 1994, allows goods under this heading to bear names or marks like symbols, labels, or signatures, even if no person has proprietary rights over such names or marks. This change is made under the powers granted by the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944, in the interest of public welfare.
