of <h1>Excise Duty on Motor Vehicles Reduced to 25% for Vehicles Under 2700 kg; No Distinction Based on Fuel Type.</h1> The Central Government has amended a previous notification to reduce the excise duty on motor vehicles with a gross weight not exceeding 2700 kg from 40% to 25%. This amendment also removes the distinction between petrol-driven vehicles and others. The changes are made under the authority of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944, and are intended to serve the public interest. The revised duty rates are specified as 15% ad valorem for vehicles over 2700 kg and 25% ad valorem for others, effective from May 13, 1994.
