Government Amends Excise Duty Rules on Metals: Exempts Certain Metal Containers and Stainless Steel Scrap Under Specific Conditions
The Central Government issued Notification 55/95 under the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944, amending previous notifications related to excise duties on metals. The amendments include omitting certain serial numbers and entries from the notifications 180/88-C.E., 40/94-C.E., 41/94-C.E., and 42/94-C.E., and inserting new entries. Notably, metal containers and waste and scrap of stainless steel are exempt from excise duty under specific conditions, such as when no manufacturing process is carried out with the aid of power or when the waste arises from the manufacture of cold-rolled stainless steel pattis/pattas.
