of <h1>Central Government Amends Excise Notification to Exempt Specific Non-Alloy Steel Items Effective August 1, 1997</h1> The Central Government has amended Notification No. 38/97-Central Excise, dated June 27, 1997, under the powers granted by section 5A of the Central Excise Act, 1944. The amendment, effective from August 1, 1997, adds specific items to the exemption list in the Annexure. These items include ingots and billets of non-alloy steel under sub-heading Nos. 7206.90 or 7207.90, and hot re-rolled products of non-alloy steel under sub-heading Nos. 7211.19, 7211.59, 7211.60, 7211.90, 7215.99, 7214.90, 7216.10, or 7216.90, provided the excise duty is paid under section 3A of the Act.
