of <h1>Excise Duty Rates Adjusted: Notification Amends Rates to 14% Plus Rs.15 Per Litre for Specific Items Under Central Excise Act</h1> Notification No. 19/2009, dated July 7, 2009, amends the earlier Notification No. 2/2008-Central Excise, reducing the peak excise duty (Cenvat) rates. The duty was reduced from 16% to 14% effective March 1, 2008, from 14% to 10% effective December 7, 2008, and from 10% to 8% effective February 24, 2008, with some exceptions. The amendment specifically updates the duty rate for certain items to 14% plus Rs.15.00 per litre. These changes were made under the authority of the Central Excise Act, 1944, in the public interest.
