of <h1>Central Government amends customs notification for defense imports, extending date to January 1, 2006, under Customs Act, 1962.</h1> The Central Government, under the authority of section 25(1) of the Customs Act, 1962, has amended Notification No. 39/96-Customs, dated 23rd July 1996, concerning defence and internal security forces-related imports. The amendment, effective from 24th December 2001, changes the date in the Explanation against S. No. 14 in the notification's annexed table from '1st day of January, 2002' to '1st day of January, 2006.' This modification is deemed necessary in the public interest.
