of <h1>India Extends Customs Duty Exemption for Defense and Government Imports Until December 31, 2009, under Notification No. 23/2009-Customs.</h1> The Government of India has issued Notification No. 23/2009-Customs, amending Notification No. 39/96-Customs, dated July 23, 1996. This amendment extends the exemption period for specified goods imported by entities such as Defence, Coast Guard, Department of Revenue, Police Forces, HAL, and certain ordnance factories, as well as for programs like ATVP, IGMDP, SAMYUKTA, LCAP, SANGRAHA, DIVYA DRISHTI, and DHANUSH. The deadline for these exemptions has been changed from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2009. This amendment is deemed necessary in the public interest under the Customs Act, 1962.
