of <h1>Central Board of Direct Taxes sets Cost Inflation Index at 376 for 2025-26 under section 48</h1> The Central Board of Direct Taxes issued notification amending the Cost Inflation Index for financial year 2025-26. Under section 48 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, the government added serial number 25 with corresponding year 2025-26 and index value 376 to the existing table in notification dated June 5, 2017. The amendment becomes effective from April 1, 2026, applying to assessment year 2026-27 and subsequent years. This updates the cost inflation index used for calculating capital gains tax on long-term capital assets.
