<h1>India Revises Customs Tariff: Redefines 'Laboratory Chemicals' for Personal Use Under Chapter 98, Heading 9802.</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 62/2024-Customs (N.T.) to amend Note 3 of Chapter 98 in the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. This amendment redefines 'laboratory chemicals' under Heading 9802 as chemicals, either organic or inorganic, imported for personal use, not for trading or sale, in packages not exceeding 500 grams or 500 milliliters. These chemicals must be identifiable by purity, markings, or other features indicating their exclusive use as laboratory chemicals. The notification is effective from its publication date in the Official Gazette.
