of <h1>India Introduces Graded Customs Duty for Smart Meters and Components Effective February 2022 Until March 2025.</h1> The Government of India, through Notification No. 13/2022-Customs, has introduced a graded Basic Customs Duty (BCD) structure for smart meters and their components. Effective from February 2, 2022, the notification specifies exemptions and applicable standard rates for various parts and sub-parts used in smart meters, such as batteries, communication modules, antennas, LCDs, relays, and printed circuit board assemblies. The duty rates vary from nil to 20% based on the item and conditions outlined in the annexure. The notification aims to regulate imports under the Customs Act, 1962, and is valid through different periods up to March 31, 2025.
