Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development in New Delhi has been approved by the Central Government as a 'Scientific Research Association' under section 35(1)(ii) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, effective from the 2016-2017 assessment year. The institute must solely conduct scientific research, maintain separate audited accounts for research funds, and submit audit reports and donation statements to the relevant tax authorities. The approval may be revoked if the institute fails to comply with these requirements, ceases genuine research activities, or does not adhere to the specified provisions of the Income-tax Act and Rules.
