Seeks to further amend Notification No. 69/2011-Customs, dated 29th July, 2011 so as to provide a concessional rate of basic customs duty in respect of tariff item 84082020 [engines of a kind used for the propulsion of motor vehicles – of cylinder capacity exceeding 250 cc] and 87084000 [gear box and parts thereof, of motor vehicles], w.e.f. 1st of January, 2016 at 5.94% and 8.13%, respectively, when imported under the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IJCEPA) - 57/2015 - Customs -Tariff

India Amends Customs Duty for Motor Vehicle Parts under India-Japan Economic Partnership; New Rates Effective January 1, 2016.

The Government of India has amended Notification No. 69/2011-Customs to provide a concessional basic customs duty rate for specific motor vehicle components under the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Effective January 1, 2016, the duty for engines used for motor vehicle propulsion with a cylinder capacity exceeding 250 cc (tariff item 84082020) is set at 5.94%, and for gearboxes and parts (tariff item 87084000) at 8.13%. This amendment is made under the powers conferred by the Customs Act, 1962, and is deemed necessary in the public interest.
